RE IRAN

Iran is an energy super power and is trying to use its energy sources more effectively to supply the high amount of national and international demands for electricity. Iran has the fourth largest oil reserves and the largest natural gas reserves in the world and also due to its geographic location, Iran enjoys enormous potential for the production of different kinds of renewable energies, including solar, wind power and geothermal energy. Iranian officials announced that they have comprehensive plans for the production of 5,000 megawatts of electricity using renewable sources until 2018 and up to day, about 250 MW became operational.
The growth rate of using the renewable energy in Iran is not enough compared to the rest of the world and less than one percent of total energy production in Iran is from renewable sources. Unfortunately due to abundance and cheapness of fossil fuels (especially natural gas), the investors and private sectors overlook the benefits of renewable energy sources despite the facilities that the government has provided for the establishment of renewable energy power plants in Iran.
